Jeep Exhaust Clamps

Measure the outside diameter of your exhaust pipe with calipers where the clamp will sit—most Wrangler JL 3.6L systems use 60-65mm pipes, while Grand Cherokee 5.7L HEMI pipes are typically 70-75mm. Common Jeep sizes are 2.0", 2.25", 2.5", and 3.0" (50mm, 57mm, 63mm, 76mm). Always measure rather than guess, as aftermarket exhausts on SA Jeeps often vary from stock dimensions.

Band clamps (barrel clamps) provide 360-degree seal compression and are better for high-vibration off-road Jeeps like the Wrangler JK or Gladiator JT, while U-bolt saddle clamps are cheaper (R80-R150 vs R200-R400) but only compress two sides. For serious 4x4 use on Gauteng pothole roads or Mpumalanga trails, band clamps are worth the extra cost for reliability.

Quality stainless steel exhaust clamps range from R120-R450 depending on size and type, with installation adding R300-R800 labour at Johannesburg or Cape Town workshops. A full Wrangler JL exhaust system might need 4-6 clamps, so budget R800-R2,500 for a complete clamp refresh if multiple connections are rusted.

Cherokee KL 2.8L CRD and Grand Cherokee 3.0L EcoDiesel systems run hotter than petrol engines and need heat-resistant stainless steel clamps rated to 650°C minimum. Cheap mild steel clamps (under R100) will rust through within 12-18 months in coastal Durban humidity or corrode from diesel exhaust acids.

Always replace clamps when doing exhaust work—old clamps lose tension and won't seal properly even if they look fine, especially on JK Wranglers over 5 years old. New clamps cost R120-R250 each and prevent comeback leaks that waste your installation labour.
