Always use premixed 50/50 coolant (R180-R280 for 5L) or mix distilled water with concentrate for proper freeze/boil protection and corrosion inhibitors. Coastal Jeeps (Durban, Cape Town) need this even more due to humidity and salt air accelerating corrosion.

Water pumps on the 3.6L Pentastar (Grand Cherokee WK2) typically last 120,000-160,000km but often fail earlier due to SA's harsh conditions—budget R2,200-R3,800 for the part plus R1,500-R2,500 labour. Replace it preventatively when doing timing chain work since access requires similar disassembly. The 2.8L CRD diesel pump is external and easier to replace (R1,800-R2,800 parts, R800-R1,200 labour).
