Most Wrangler JL/JK models use Dana 44 rear differentials (Rubicon gets front and rear Dana 44s), while base models may have Dana 35. Grand Cherokee WK2 with the 3.6L Pentastar typically runs a Dana 44 rear, while the 5.7L HEMI gets a beefier Dana 44HD. Check your VIN or axle tag to confirm.

If you regularly tackle Mpumalanga trails or coastal dunes, a locking differential is worth the R12,000-R25,000 investment. Wrangler Rubicon models come standard with electronic lockers, but Sport/Sahara models benefit from aftermarket ARB or Eaton lockers for serious 4x4 work.
